Reinhold Westerheide plays each work with full dedication, a lot of feeling, and occasionally beguiling sonic elegance. His round and smooth tone is made for this music that lives on the intimacy of its spare arrangements. At the same time, Westerheide structures the sonic difference between accompaniment and melody playing in a way that in some places we imagine hearing two instruments. And between agile and meditative sounds we find the occassional cabinet piece, like Baden Powell’s “Petite Valse”, where the propulsive basic rhythm is stylised until it becomes a purely percussive tapping pattern. With “Valseana”, Reinhold Westerheide has succeeded in recording a truly marvellous CD that, apart from its interpretatoric sophistication, offers a clear and present sound and has an informative bilingual booklet included.

Argentinean composer, singer, poet and guitarist Atahualpa Yupanqui, who passed away in 1992, is, next to Mercedes Sosa, the best known representative of Argentinean folk music.
Guitarist, percussionist and composer Reinhold Westerheide and Dutch singer Ino Kruysen interpret 16 of Yupanqui's compositions (written between 1931 and 1967) in a sensitive and authentic way on their new album "Songs and Pieces of Yupanqui". The delicate guitar playing and expressive singing make for a new experience of the power of Argentinean music.
The songs' Spanish lyrics are printed in the booklet.
